Stray Cat Populations
The Worcester Yacht Club on the Brandvlei Dam, about 110km from Cape Town, is a water sport club with roughly 80 weekend cabins and a campsite. A community of stray cats occasionally outgrows the area’s capacity to maintain a balanced environment. In extreme cases, some people resort to inhumane methods like killing the animals. Instead, we promote compassionate sterilization efforts to stabilize the cat population, safeguard their wellbeing, and foster harmony for both humans and animals. By coming together — similarly to successful programs in countries like Greece and Turkey — we can trap, neuter, and release stray cats, ensuring they receive necessary care and access to managed food sources. The community, including club committee members and local businesses, has rallied to provide veterinary services and hands-on support. While an ongoing effort, it has significantly reduced overpopulation. Together, we can create a kinder environment where every creature is treated with respect. Join us today.
