Our Story
Welcome to our very first Stand By Me Animal Care newsletter! We are thrilled to share with you our story and how we plan to make a positive impact in our community.
Firstly, we would like to pay tribute to our first legacy donor (legator) Ronald John Williams, who inspired the creation of this animal welfare organisation whilst he was alive. Ronnie sadly passed away in 2021 and he decided to leave his estate to help us to help people to help animals.
We are still in our infancy and hope to develop into a financial force whose sole aim it will be to provide financial support to already existing animal welfare, animal care, and animal rescue organisations. Since Ronnie’s passing to date, we have been supporting Ronnie’s cats, Axl-Rose, Ozzy and Cola, who were all adopted by a friend in the Muizenberg area, Lee-Anne and her family.
During the period that it has taken for the red tape involved in a new start-up to settle down, we have donated to various animal welfare organisations such as Oscar’s Arc & Bella’s Guardian Angels, we have supported a cat project at a club in Worcester, paid for several animals to be neutered and spayed and more. Our motto is Helping People Help Animals.
To help our efforts in growing wings, we ask that you support us by simply passing on our newsletter to grow our footprint, to consider a donation through our website, to volunteer as a dog-walker or a dog-runner.

Litter of the Month
Through our Litter of the Month initiative, we’re proud to support Bella’s Guardian Angels, a rescue group that focuses on caring for and rehoming of abandoned puppies and kittens.
Each month, we help cover vet bills, food, and basic care for a new litter taken in by the team. These little ones often arrive in poor condition, but with proper support, they’re given a real chance at life and love.
This partnership allows us to back the people doing hands-on rescue work, and it means your donations go straight to where they’re needed most.

Leonie Lategan (Founder)
Leonie brings over 30 years of experience in financial services, passionately supporting her clients with their personal and business risk assessments, wealth creation and preservation, retirement and estate planning, and inter-generational wealth transfer.
Ronnie was a long-term client of Leonie’s and over the years their shared love for animals over-shadowed their financial conversations!
Leonie has decided to combine her financial expertise and love for animals in the passion project we know as Stand By Me Animal Care, after Ronnie left his estate to be used for the welfare of domestic animals. We ensure that donations and funds are directed to causes personally vetted by us, supporting the welfare of animals, and making a meaningful impact.
Leonie also spearheaded the project at the Worcester Yacht Club promoting a humane solution for animals, who may otherwise be killed without second thought.
Leonie remains hard at work in her financial practice in Constantia with Adviceworx and may be contacted if you require financial advice.
