Worcester Yacht Club Feral Cat Management

cd01a8b9-7b17-31f4-c981-e8eb30a6c062

At the Worcester Yacht Club, to responsibly manage the feral cat population, we continue to support their efforts to implement a TNR approach: Trap, Neuter, Release.

Since December, 8 cats were trapped during this period, all unfortunately affected by cat flu upon assessment.

Of these, 2 kittens received treatment and were successfully rehomed into caring homes, while 2 kittens were treated, neutered and safely released back into their environment.

Sadly, 4 cats were too severely affected by illness and had to be humanely euthanised.

While some outcomes have been difficult, these efforts remain an important step toward stabilising and improving the health of the cat population in the area.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Fynbos Animal Clinic for their invaluable partnership and support. Their dedication and expertise have been instrumental in helping us carry out this work and move closer to a sustainable solution for the Worcester Yacht Club cat community.

Karoo Donkey Sanctuary

Our support for the Karoo Donkey Sanctuary has grown into something far more meaningful than a partnership. We are proud to have become “Ouma” to several newborn foals at the sanctuary.

These foals are the offspring of pregnant mares rescued from the Eastern Cape, with Stand By Me Animal Care covering the cost of transporting them to their safe new home. We are delighted to see how well they have settled and thrived under the sanctuary’s care. In support of this vital work, we have also increased our monthly contribution to help ensure the continued wellbeing of all the animals.

Jonno and his dedicated team have rescued several horses and mules in recent months. Among them is Sir Morgan, a very special horse living with monocular vision due to a previous injury, who is now safe and cared for.

The sanctuary is currently facing extremely challenging conditions due to a severe drought. Tragically, they recently lost Humphrey the donkey to an intestinal illness that may have been linked to these harsh conditions.

We ask for your continued support in helping Jonno and his incredible team of lifesavers. Together, we can help ensure that they have the resources needed to keep rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for these deserving animals.

WHO WE ARE

LEONIE

Stand By Me Animal Care was founded in response to concerns raised by potential legators—people who wanted to leave substantial funds to animal causes but feared that some organisations might lack the financial expertise to manage large sums responsibly.

Our founder, Leonie Lategan, is a Certified Financial Planner® with over 35 years of experience in professional money management. She is also a passionate animal lover who, together with several concerned clients, recognised the need for an intermediary organisation that could bridge the gap between generous donors and deserving rescue organisations.

WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER SUPPORTING US

1. A meaningful gift alternative

Instead of giving yet another material gift to someone who already has everything, consider making a contribution in their name to help improve the lives of domesticated animals.

2. Lean and efficient operations

We run a streamlined organisation with only one salaried staff member who manages daily operations. Our three directors—all highly qualified—volunteer their time without remuneration.

3. Minimal overheads

Our only operating expenses are marketing and accounting fees. Everything else goes toward fulfilling our mission.

4. Creating long-term impact

We aim to build a strong, sustainable foundation that will support animal welfare organisations for generations to come.
